This yummy low fat sugar free dessert roundup includes recipes easily sweetened with monk fruit that take less than 15 minutes to prepare. They're all gluten and wheat free and vegetarian at a minimum. Plus, I've noted where they're also common allergen free.
Just Substitute Monk Fruit Powder Where Other Sweeteners Are Used and Other Dietary Considerations
I highly recommend using monk fruit powder as a sweetener. To sweeten these seven low fat sugar free desserts with monk fruit, just replace the stevia or other sweeteners in the recipe with monk fruit powder to taste. I love the monk fruit powder from Nuts.com.
If you want to know more about my experiences with natural sweeteners and why I choose monk fruit powder, read For the Love of Sugar: Addiction and Natural Substitutes.
All seven low fat sugar free desserts are also gluten and wheat free. I've chosen recipes that are delicious and easily lend themselves to sweetening with monk fruit powder. Also, common allergens and dietary preferences are noted.
One of the best things about having healthy naturally sweetened sugar free desserts is that you can also have them for meals or snacks.
It's really just about quantity. So, if you're having these recipes as a dessert after a meal, then you're going to have a smaller quantity than if you're having them as a snack or meal themselves.
All these recipes are low fat and work well if you're following Trim Healthy Mama as an E or Naturally Happy Healthy Me's Balanced Eating Plan for low fat options.
1. Briana Thomas Mango Soft Serve | Low Fat, Sugar Free, THM E, Vegetarian
I love Briana's dessert recipes because many of them are sweetened with stevia, and I can just substitute monk fruit powder for the stevia.
This recipe does require a high powered blender as the consistency is thick. While this soft serve makes a yummy dessert and good snack, it's also high protein enough to have it as a standalone meal.
I use Daisy 2% cottage cheese to avoid nasty additives. So, this recipe isn't dairy free, but it is egg free and nut free. It's also vegetarian.
2. Northern Nester Apple Cake in a Mug | Low Fat, Sugar Free, THM E, Vegetarian or Vegan
Apples are one of my favorite dessert fruits. This simple dessert is easy and tasty. It's also good with about any fruit so if apples aren't your favorite, then make a substitution. In addition, monk fruit powder to taste works well in place of the xylitol or Gentle Sweet.
This recipe is vegetarian, dairy free, and nut free as written. To make it egg free, just substitute an egg replacer for the egg whites. I also like to add more vanilla or another flavoring like maple or caramel.
3. My Montana Kitchen Chocolate Peanut Butter | Low Carb + Low Fat, Sugar Free, THM FP, Vegan
OK, I'll be the first to admit that peanut butter isn't that healthy, especially if you have a sensitivity to molds. However, this recipe uses peanut butter powder which gives peanut butter flavor without all the fat.
Let's face it. No self-respecting low fat sugar free dessert roundup would leave out a chocolate offering. Also, it's easy to swap out the sweetener in the recipe with monk fruit powder.
I like this chocolate peanut butter as a spread and as a dip. It makes tasteless rice cakes yummy without adding extra fat, and I love to dip fruits into it. It also makes a nice change from syrup on pancakes.
Plus, it's vegan without having to make any substitutions. Best of all, it only takes a few minutes to prepare!
4. Briana Thomas Rice Pudding | Low Fat, Sugar Free, THM E, Vegetarian or Vegan
I like this recipe because it's a yummy way to use leftover rice. You can also easily add flavors, top with or mix in fruit, etc. to provide variety.
Also, it's easy to substitute monk fruit powder for the stevia. This recipe is egg free and also nut free if you use coconut milk. It can be dairy free if you use one tablespoon coconut cream in place of the half and half and Nutiva butter flavored coconut oil in place of the butter.
It's vegetarian as written and vegan if you substitute coconut cream and oil for the dairy.
5. My Montana Kitchen Healthy Peach Crisp | Low Fat, Sugar Free, THM E, Vegan
I love fruit desserts and fruit crisps are a favorite. Think of this as a fruit crisp recipe rather than a peach crisp recipe. Use whatever fruit you have on hand that's fresh and in season.
Just substitute monk fruit to taste for the xylitol. I'm not a fan of xylitol because it's poisonous to dogs. I have a friend who recently lost her dog because he got into a jar of peanut butter sweetened with xylitol.
There are directions for microwaving and oven baking. However, I always oven bake.
This recipe is vegan if you don't top it with a dairy topping. If you do top it with something, make sure it has no more than five grams of fat if you're following Trim Healthy Mama or my Balanced Eating Plan.
Best of all, it's free of common allergens and healthy.
6. Fat Free Vegan Kitchen Ridiculously Easy Pineapple Sorbet | Low Fat, Sugar Free, THM E
I like this recipe because you can use any number of fruits to make sorbet. It can't get any easier than this. Just freeze the fruit and blend it. You can use fresh or frozen fruit.
I usually add a little monk fruit powder to sweeten. But if you don't like your desserts sweet, then you can have it without any additional sweetener.
This recipe is free of all common allergens. If you are allergic to pineapple or it's just not one of your favorite fruits, then you can use a different fruit. See the comments below the recipe for some ideas.
There are also links to other fat free vegan and vegetarian sugar free desserts at the bottom of the recipe. I love frozen desserts on hot summer days!
7. Briana Thomas Oatmeal Craisin Cookies | Low Fat, Sugar Free, THM E, Vegetarian or Vegan
I've used three Briana Thomas recipes out of seven. If you're sensing a theme, then you're right. Briana's recipes are already gluten / wheat free, sugar free primarily sweetened with stevia (easy to replace with monk fruit powder to taste), and follow Thin Healthy Mama guidelines so they're low fat, or low carb or both.
These cookies have both dairy and egg whites, but you can replace the dairy with unsweetened applesauce and use a low fat egg replacer. So, the recipe as written is vegetarian, but you can make it allergen free easily and in the process make it vegan. It's nut free, too.
In addition, there are several good suggestions for variations in the comments by others who've made them.
Which is Your Favorite Low Fat Sugar Free Dessert?
I chose these seven low fat sugar free desserts because I wanted a variety of desserts that were amazingly easy prep, easy to sweeten with monk fruit powder, and were vegetarian or vegan with options to avoid common allergens in many of the recipes.
I make the mango soft serve, apple cake and fruit crisp frequently, so they're definitely my favorites. However, I like them all.
Where to buy monk fruit powder? Nuts.com has the best monk fruit powder I've found. It's pure without added fillers or other sweeteners. It's not cheap, but a little goes a very long way.
